Ask Dr. Mary-Anne Lancaster
A More Glamorous You?
Dr. Lancaster is really excited to be starting treatment with non-surgical cosmetic injectables. She has completed all training and is now consulting using Galderma products Dysport, Emervel and Restylane.
About the Products
Botulinum Toxin A (Dysport)
Dysport is Galderma’s Botulinum Toxin Type A. Wrinkles on our face are made by muscles contracting and causing markings in the overlying skin. Botulinum Toxin when injected around these muscles stops these muscles contracting so the folds in the skin don’t form. This allows the skin to heal and will often gradually allow the lines that are etched into the skin to disappear.
Dysport can also be used to block muscles such as masseter, the big muscle on the angle of the jaw, to help with teeth grinding or mentalis, the muscle on the chin, to stop the dimpling.
Dysport is temporary, usually lasting around 3-6 months and can be repeated as needed. Side effects of the treatment are usually temporary and mild although there are some reasons where it can’t be injected and the doctor will discuss this with you at your consultation.
Dermal fillers: Restylane and Emervel products.
These products are based on hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring substance and is found in our own bodies. Fillers are a range of injectable gels made from hyaluronic acid used for filling out wrinkles and softly restoring the fullness of the lips, the chin, cheeks and the nose.
There have been over 20 million treatments since 1996 and has been shown to be both efficacious and safe. Each patient is assessed for suitability and each person is assessed for which individual product will suit them, their needs and wishes, and their skin type. Side effects are uncommon but may include redness and soreness at the site and bruising. Side effects usually last a few days and resolve with minimal intervention.
Like Dysport, the fillers are temporary although studies show that after an initial treatment and then a top up a couple of months later, the fillers may last up to 18 months.
How much do they cost?
The consultation is free. You only pay for the products you use.
Dysport is $6.50 (+GST) per unit and each area requires different numbers of units. For example, the forehead usually requires 10-40 units, the glabellar frown lines usually need around 50 units.
The Dermal Fillers are $625.00 (+GST) per 1 ml vial. Often 1 ml is enough for treatment, for example to enhance cheeks and soften the lines alongside the nose.
What is Dr. Lancaster aiming for?
Dr. Lancaster is aiming to subtly improve and enhance your features so people will say “Gee, you look great! Have you just been on a holiday?” and NOT “What the heck have you just had done?” Dr. Lancaster starts with small doses and can always add more, depending on your budget and preference, when you are reviewed.
About the Consultation
These appointments aren’t available on line so ring the clinic to make a time. The consultations are free and have absolutely no obligation. If you decide you’d like to have a treatment, what you pay will depend on which and how much product you use. Some people may need a combination of products, some only one product.
At the consultation, Dr. Lancaster will sit with you and go through your medical history, the side effects and expected outcomes of the treatment; the cost; the follow-up.
